What is the Windows Store version of Outlook?
The Windows Store version of Outlook is an old version of Outlook that Microsoft used to distribute through the Windows Store app. Although Microsoft discontinued this version, it still comes pre-installed on some PCs. The Windows Store version of Outlook does not interoperate well with other programs, such as AkrutoSync.
How can I use AkrutoSync if my PC has the Windows Store version of Outlook?
To use AkrutoSync with Outlook you need to upgrade Outlook to the latest version, as described in the next section, but see the warning at the start of next section.

Upgrading Outlook to the Latest version
Warning: as of this writing (February 14, 2020) upgrading to the latest version of Outlook wipes your Outlook settings and local copy of your emails. Make sure to make a backup of your email before you upgrade. Also, make sure that you know your email account details, including your email password, so that you can re-enter them in Outlook after upgrade.
- Backup your email before you proceed.
- Make sure you know your email account settings before you proceed.
- Open https://account.microsoft.com/services/ and log in to the Microsoft Account used for your Office subscription. This is necessary so that Microsoft recognizes that you are entitled to the free upgrade.
- Under Services & subscriptions you should see the Microsoft Office product that you own.
- Click Install. This will download the latest version of the Office product that you have licensed (in the screenshot above, it is Office 365 Home, but can also be Office 365 Pro, or Office 2016 or 2019).
