Take a look at the cases. Don’t the brown and black leather shells with their seam in the middle look like flat footballs? The metallic options have a diamond pattern. We’re not dissing the cases — it’s the first thing that comes to mind when looking at it.

With the press of a button on the back, these cases slide right off so you can change them up. More colors will be coming. Samsung says the leatherbacks will be resistant to water.

The other notable feature is the camera as the G4 has a 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a rear camera lens with f/1.8 aperture. Its Quad HD display is 5.5 inches with 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and 538 pixels per inch. In comparison to the G3, LG reports its display is 25 percent brighter, 50 percent higher contrast and 56 percent improved color accuracy.

Powering the G4 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 90 processor with X10 LTE. Its CPU is 1.8 GHz 64-bit. All G4 phones come with 32 GB of storage that can be expanded to hold up to 2 TB of data with a microSD card.

Preloaded software include:

  • Glance View: Quick, swipe-down access to notifications without unlocking or waking phone.
  • Ringtone ID: Phone creates unique ringtones based on phone numbers.
  • LG Health: Track your health and fitness goals and progress.
  • Smart Settings: Adjusts phone settings based on triggers, such as leaving home.
  • Event Pocket: Use drag-and-drop to create new events.

LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 comparison

PC Magazine provides a helpful comparison chart of the two phones and their specs. They’re almost identical with the follow exceptions:

LG G4Samsung Galaxy S6
Slightly better camera for selfies. More pixels per inch.
MicroSD card slot. Smaller.
Removable battery. Lighter.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 CPU. Samsung Exynos 7420 Octa-Core CPU.
IPS LCD screen. Super AMOLED HD screen.

Because of the removable battery and microSD card slot, the G4 sacrifices size and weight. Still, it’s only a 0.6 ounce difference. This should make choosing between the two easier as some customers prefer having a removable and the extra storage option.
