Alternative to Samsung Kies to Sync Outlook with Androids.

Alternative to Samsung Kies to Sync Outlook with Androids.

If you’ve used Kies to sync your contacts, calendar and tasks with your Samsung devices, you’ve probably run into some issues. Kies just doesn’t seem to work for a lot of customers. AkrutoSync is a powerful and convenient alternative to Kies. Here are some of the issues that have arisen and why AkrutoSync is your best bet for a Kies alternative.

Alternative to Kies

Kies has a problem with dropping or duplicating contacts. It won’t recognize when a name has been updated on the phone and will often just add it as a second contact under a different name. Users report that Kies does not recognize their Samsung Galaxy device when it is plugged into the USB port, or that sync does not complete.

With AkrutoSync, you won’t have any problems with dropped or duplicated entries. AkrutoSync synchronizes all data within your entries completely and accurately. This includes recurring appointments, reminders, contact photos, and all other data.

After initial configuration AkrutoSync works completely automatically. If you choose to synchronize using your home wireless network, when you get within range of your network, your phone automatically connects with AkrutoSync on your computer. If you choose to synchronize over the Internet, your device and Outlook are always in sync with each other (provided your computer is turned on). Whichever option you choose, your phone connects directly to your computer, so that your data is stored only on your own phone and your own computer.

AkrutoSync is also a great alternative to Kies because it doesn’t require you to change the way you work with your contacts, calendar and tasks. You can continue to use Samsung’s built-in contact app and the dialer, or your preferred app. For your calendar and tasks, you can continue to use your phone’s built in calendar or the apps and widgets that you already use.

AkrutoSync is a fully automatic, wireless, non-cloud sync program. You don’t have to keep track of any cables or remember to plug it in to sync. This amazing Kies alternative does it all for you without any work at all on your end. AkrutoSync works with all Android phones and tablets, including Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, Google Nexus 5, Google Nexus 4, Motorola Droid RAZR and other Android devices.

5 Samsung Kies Alternatives

Samsung Kies Alternative

The comments below are from a number of Samsung and Android forums, leaving many looking for a Samsung Kies alternative.

“Samsung Kies not working.” (This shows up a lot.)

“I am having problem Samsung Kies not connecting.”

“Can’t get Kies firmware upgrade working.”

“I have the latest version of Kies, but it won’t connect to my phone. I get the message ‘Your device does not support Kies v2.0.’”

These comments come from many Android smartphone and tablet forums. Many users report Kies problems, request help to fix it, or ask for alternatives. Often, the fixes don’t take care of the problems, making Kies alternatives their most viable option.

Samsung Kies is an app that syncs Outlook, music and photos and updates software on Samsung phones.

There are two versions:

  • Kies 3 is for devices running Android 4.3 and Android 4.4
  • Kies 2.6 for smartphones and tablets manufactured prior to September 2013 running older versions of Android.

Both versions contain problems.

These are some of the reported issues with Samsung Kies not working:

  • Won’t sync.
  • Doesn’t recognize Android device.
  • Fails to install.
  • Shows Kies not connecting to phone or computer.
  • Spits out error messages.
  • Claims there’s no default email client.
  • Won’t run.
  • Disconnects Wi-Fi.
  • Syncs part of the data or none at all.

The posted workarounds are often lengthy and cumbersome. Unfortunately, they don’t always solve the problem or cause new problems such as failures to connect or shutting down Windows Update if disconnected from Wi-Fi.

Samsung Kies not working? We have a solution.

Samsung Kies, an app that syncs Outlook, music and photos with the Android phone and updates software, comes up often in discussion forums. But not in a good way. Most of the time, people are asking for help because Kies is not working. They’re either doing Kies troubleshooting or they want to find a Kies alternative that can sync Outlook contacts, calendars and tasks with an Android phone.

Its problems occur with all versions. Currently, there’s version 3 for devices running Android 4.3 and Android 4.4 and version 2.6 for devices running older versions of Android that launched before September 2013.

Here are some of the problems users have reported:

  • Doesn’t sync.
  • Kies not connecting. (Can’t connect the phone to the computer.)
  • Doesn’t recognize the Android device.
  • Won’t install.
  • Doesn’t sync at all or partially syncs data.
  • Displays error messages.
  • Says there’s no default email client.
  • Won’t launch.
  • Causes Wi-Fi to disconnect. (Fixing it has prevented Windows Updates from installing.)

Some users report that customer service isn’t helpful for Samsung Kies troubleshooting. Others post detailed and cumbersome workarounds, which sometimes only solve part of the problem. With AkrutoSync, you won’t have these problems.

I understand that you have your calendar on one PC in Outlook and want to synchronize it with 2 phones. Yes, AkrutoSync can synchronize your PC with as many phones and tablets as you like. See our FAQ question for instructions on adding a second phone or additional devices.

Will this sync recurring tasks between outlook and Galaxy S5? When I used Kies, all my recurring tasks in Outlook were changed to non-recurring.

    • Akruto Support June 30, 2014 at 7:33 pm

      Hello Dave,

AkrutoSync works with recurring tasks, as well as recurring appointments and other Outlook features. AkrutoSync is not limited to synchronizing a handful of items, like task name, or contact phone number and email. AkrutoSync syncs everything that both Outlook and your phone can display. This is why AkrutoSync offers to “Synchronize all your data. Every single bit of it.”

Note that the Calendar app that Samsung includes on the S5 does not handle recurring tasks well, even if you do not sync your tasks with anything and keep them only on the phone. We recommend that you use either the free app Tasks and Notes for MS Exchange, or Touchdown by Nitrodesk. (the later is a paid app). Both apps are described on our compatible apps page at and work very will with AkrutoSync, so that you can work with all your tasks on your phone.

I’ve had many problems with Kies to the point where I can say that Kies isn’t working for me. How can I be sure that your sync option will work and I won’t have the same problems I had with Kies? It’ll take up my time to install the software.

I’ve had problems with Kies not connecting. If I understand Akruto correctly — it connects to your computer’s IP addresses. What if my IP changes?

    • Akruto Support August 4, 2014 at 12:06 pm

Gunnar, you understand correctly that your phone connects directly to your computer using your computer’s IP address. You do not need to understand how IP addresses work. AkrutoSync takes care of this, and guides you step by step in the initial setup and if your IP address changes. You don’t even need to know what an IP address is. AkrutoSync is built to be easy to use.

  • J. Edwards August 27, 2014 at 6:08 pm

This is exactly what I like with this product. it automatically connects with your device (Both computer and mobile phone) and also automatically syncs the changes you’ve made.

For example: I went out and put new contacts or was given new tasks by my boss, when I get home it automatically syncs with my computer so I can see all of the new stuff that entered on that day. This software is Amazing and highly recommended.

I am hearing good things about this product as an alternative to kies. Are there monthly fees if I will be getting one?

    • Akruto Support September 1, 2014 at 11:24 pm

There are no monthly fees. You just pay once for a lifetime license. The program runs on your own computer, soyou do not depend on us for anything.
